Behind the Shelves with Treasure Trove

In the heart of Geneva, Treasure Trove is a cosy independent bookshop specialising in English-language children’s books.

We’re excited to welcome Treasure Trove as the first European bookstore to join the YourBookstore.io community through CirclePOS. Run by Diana Bosio, a former academic turned passionate bookseller, this shop has quickly become a favourite for young readers and their families.

From Academia to Bookshop Owner

“I never imagined I’d leave academia to run a bookshop,” Diana admits. “But as a mother, I saw the need for a place where children could connect with books in English.”

What started as a small collection of 50 books in her living room soon grew as word spread within Geneva’s English-speaking community. Today, Treasure Trove offers a carefully curated selection of books for children of all ages, from board books for toddlers to engaging novels for teens.

“We’ve filled every available corner with books,” Diana explains. “I believe children should be able to hold and flip through a book before they take it home. That tactile experience is so important in building their connection to reading.”

Treasure Trove Geneva

A Special Niche in Geneva

The shop serves not only Geneva’s flourishing Anglophone expat community but also local families looking to introduce their children to English. With an emphasis on children’s literature, Treasure Trove fills a gap that was sorely missed in the area.

“We have parents and teachers coming in regularly, looking for books that will capture their children’s imaginations,” says Diana. “What makes us unique is our personalised approach; we even offer a subscription service where I handpick a book for children each month, tailored to their interests.”

Diana’s own experience raising three very different children has made her especially attuned to the needs and interests of her young customers. “That personal touch is what sets us apart” she adds.

Challenges of Independent Bookselling in Switzerland

Running a small, independent bookshop in Switzerland isn’t without its challenges. With the rise of online shopping and the proximity of big online retailers like Amazon, local bookshops have felt the pressure. However, Diana remains optimistic about the future.

“People miss the experience of browsing in a bookshop,” she says. “There’s something about finding a book on the shelf, picking it up, and making that connection — it’s an experience that can’t be replicated online.”

Geneva’s international character also presents a unique opportunity. With people from all over the world passing through the city, English often becomes a common language, increasing the demand for English-language books.

Future for Local Bookshops

Despite the challenges, Diana is confident about the future of independent bookshops.

“I don’t believe physical books will ever disappear” she says. “There’s something irreplaceable about holding a book in your hands. As long as people value that experience, local bookshops will continue to thrive.”

For Diana, running Treasure Trove is more than just a business, it’s a way to foster a love of reading in the next generation and create a community space where children and parents can discover the magic of books together.

“We’re not just selling books,” she says. “We’re sharing stories and helping children fall in love with reading. That’s what makes this shop special.”
