Between 2009 and 2015 the number of independent bookstores across the USA grew by 35%, from 1,651 stores to 2,227. So, how did they do it? Associate Professor at the Harvard Business School, Ryan Raffaelli, puts this down to booksellers ability to reinvent and redefine the bookstore.

Circle Community Best Sellers – February 2018
February’s Best Seller is Mark Manson’s ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’, moving 883 copies. Scott Pape’s ever-present ‘The Barefoot Investor’ remains in the top 3, selling 726 copies this month. While new release and New York Times Best Seller ‘The Woman in the Window’ by A. J. Finn follows with 501 copies sold.

Much like his presidential campaign, ‘Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House’ has had a dramatic rise to the top of the poll. Michael Wolff’s exposé has sold 1005 copies across the Circle Community and over 1.7 million copies worldwide since its release on the 5th of January. Manson’s ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ and Pape’s ‘The Barefoot Investor’, continue to hold second and third positions selling 946 and 832 copies.

The focus in January has been the Rails 4 upgrade and we are now at the point of wanting some brave, tech-savvy stores to beta test it.

Scott Pape’s ‘The Barefoot Investor’ sold 7251 copies in 2017 and is the Circle Community’s best selling book of the year. ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo followed closely, selling 6585 copies. In third was David Walliams’ latest children’s book, ‘Bad Dad’, which sold 5251 copies.

Moving almost twice as many copies as last months Best Seller, at 1849 copies is ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. Following in second place is David Walliams’ latest novel ‘Bad Dad’, selling 1724 copies. The third biggest seller this month has been Mark Manson’s ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’, at 1474 copies.

The priority this month has been on speed and stability which required optimisations to POS requests and expanded servers as an insurance policy. The much requested Backorder Report that can be sent to suppliers was also delivered. We have also been pushing ahead with the Rails4 upgrade and hope to have a beta out in January.

Circle Community Best Sellers – November 2017
It is fabulous to see the top 5 Best Sellers this November are all children’s or young adult books! Jeff Kinney’s ‘The Getaway (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #12)’ is November’s Best Seller, moving 955 copies. ‘Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow’ by Jessica Townsend placed second again with 941 sales (even more than last month), and David Walliams’ ‘Bad Dad’ has taken an extremely close third position, selling 940 copies.
